Future Plans for the Sites

Last modified 2006-02-17 15:13

The future plans for adding functionality to the sites after their initial release.

The goal to provide for each county was to make an easy tool that would be able to keep content up to date and easily allowing the county sites to share content with other extension sites (once they are redesigned as well).  Some things that were planned to be implemented were not able to be accomplished by June 15th, so there are plans for future expansion of the sites. Other plans are dependent on work being done on other sites before they can be implemented.  Here are the current plans for expanding the sites in the future, listed in anticipated order of implementation.

Form Generation

At the time of the release of the site, the content management package supports html form generation, but does not provide an easy to use interface for that generation.  Therefore each county may request forms to be made for them at any time prior to taking their site live.  After most sites go live, an interface for this form generation to make it easy to create will be made.

Full Version Control

Currently the sites support the ability to 'undo' a set of changes made each time you save the document.  However to view or edit anything but the most current version, a change as to be undone, the previous document copied, and then the 'undoing' undone, in order to get the copy and leave the original document in it's current state.  We hope to implement full versioning control, where a user can view any of the previous saves of a document without having to undo any changes.  Documents can then be reverted back to previous saves if needed.

Expanded Usage Policy

The current goal is to make sure the basic usage of the site for the general user is working properly.  Once the majority of the counties have been trained on the new sites and errors have been worked out, users wishing to do more with the site may be trained on further use to better customize their site.  There is currently no estimated timeframe for an expanded usage policy.   The expanded usage policy will include user management, ability to add scripts and create dynamic content pages.

Publication Searching

After Ohioline is redesigned, searching for publications on Ohioline directly from the county site will be viable.  After the feature is complete, counties will have the option for their existing search box to search Ohioline as well, or add another search box to do Ohioline searches.  Content will have the feel of the county page even though it is actually stored on Ohioline.
