Site Usage Policy

Last modified 2006-02-17 12:24

The site usage policy describing what is and is not allowed on the site.

This usage policy outlines what a typical content administrator will be able to do with the site and outline what content is allowed on the site.  As well as adhering to this policy, the network policy for both Communications and Technology as well as OSU's network policy must be met as well.

Content Administrator Roles and Activities

The content administrator is anyone responsible for the updating of the content section of the site.  Content is defined as a document, event, file, folder, image, link, or news item.  There are three roles of content administrators: Editors, Reviewers and Administrators.  Each editor may perform the following activities:

  • Add a content item
  • Edit a content item
  • Submit a content item for publishing
  • Delete a content item

Reviewers are content administrators that have the ability to authorize content for publishing.  Each reviewer may perform the following activities:

  • Authorize content for publishing
  • Reject submitted content

A content administrator may have both the editor and reviewer roles at the same time.  The administrator role has all of the permissions of an editor and a reviewer, and then also may perform the following activities:

  • Assign folder specific editing permissions to user accounts
  • Create user accounts for people outside of Extension to edit their page
  • Modify the contact information in the accessibility statement at the bottom of the page.

There may only be 2 people with the administrator role per site.

Acceptible Content

All content on this site must pertain to the the work being done at the county extension office.  This information will be organized into content areas similar to those listed on the state extension page.  When content is added to the site, at least three keywords will be set in the properties tab of that content that accurately describe the content.  Information not pertaining to the county office must be personal and professional in nature, located strictly within your home directory.  This space may not be used for other commercial activities by displaying advertisements (banners and text) or merchandise for sale.

Template Options

There will be a limited amount of options available to each county for options on the template used for their site.  The options are outlined below:

  • The role of each extension educator as a member or reviewer will be decided upon by the county office.  The office may elect to have most users as members with a handfull of reviewers approving content.  The office may also elect to have all users be reviewers, eliminating the peer review process of the content.  Each user will also then need to be designated program areas where they should be able to edit.  It is recommended that a handfull of users are reviewers, with at least one member being able to edit each content area.
  • RSS News feeds will be set up for other extension sites.  Each county will have the option of subscribing to all, some, or none of these feeds at their own discretion.  The actual subscription of each feed will be done through a systems administrator, not the content administrator.
  • The number and breakdown of the calendars show in the Events section of the site will be at the discretion of the county.  These calendars must be originally set up by a systems administrator, though the events within them will be editable via the mail server webpage.
