How do I change the default page for a section/topic?
Every folder or area on the site we want to have a default document in. A default document is a page that is shown whenever the user only specifies that they want to go to view a folder on the site. On sites that aren't in a content management package, this is commonly something like index.html. If there isn't a default document in place, the viewer will see a very bland looking listing of the contents of that directory, which we don't want them to see. We'd much rather create a default page that guided our viewer to where they'd like to be on the site, rather than just seeing a listing of topics.
On your site, any content item within a folder may be designated as the default content. To do this, go to the folder that you wish to specify the default content for (browsing through the Contents tab). Once there, click on View to see what the current default content item is. On your grey editing box, you should see on the upper right side a section noted 'Display.' Click and pull down to the last option 'Change content item as default view...' (or the red link of the same name on the subsequent page, if the menus are not working). On this new page, you will have a listing of the contents of that folder. Select which page you wish to have as the default content item and click on Save. The default item will now be changed to your new choice.
Note that default content items are not listed in the navigation menu on their own, so it is usually a good idea to name them exactly as you do the folder that they are the default for. This way it makes it easier for the user to get around the site without clicking on one name in the navigation, and being taken to a page with another name.
